Top 5 ways to become more productive

Top 5 ways to become more productive

Productivity. The state or quality of being productive.

In the fast-paced world of today we have limited time to accomplish our goals during the day. Time can never be bought, exchanged, refunded or borrowed. Therefore it is crucial that everyone develops methods that maximise one's productivity.

This is not a treatise. It is merely a subjective list of things that I believe can help anyone become more efficient with their time.

Waking up early. This one seems obvious but is not the easiest to implement. I personally do not believe that there is a special trick or tip that one can implement and magically will be able to wake up at 5 a.m. every morning. I believe the easiest way to rise before the sun is quite simply to do something you enjoy in the morning. This could be going to the gym or going to work on a project or venture that you are decidedly passionate about.

Eating consistently throughout the day. This is a simple one. Our bodies need food from which we are able to extract energy. If we are not eating food consistently throughout the day, there will be times when our body has no fuel to propel us through the day. Therefore be sure to eat consistently, be it 3 whole meals or 6 small to medium sized portions. This does involve preparing your meals which can be time consuming. Choose a day like Sunday (or any other day when you may have spare time) to prep your meals for the week.

Develop a buddy system. Do a deal with a fellow colleague to leave or arrive at work at a certain time. This way when the time comes you will be forced to act primarily out of pure guilt. Just make sure your colleague is trustworthy and as determined as you!

Put yourself in the correct environment. You need to put yourself in an ecosystem with as few temptations as possible. In the 21st century we are surrounded by so many temptations that can consume hours of our time in the day. The biggest culprit being social media. Those sites are designed to keep you engaged for as long as possible. Try switching your smartphone off during work hours. No, not on standby, OFF! That is the most practical. Other methods include leaving your devices at home or handing them to your boss at the beginning of every work day.

Finally, coffee. This one is a double-edged sword. There are pros to drinking coffee. It tastes good and it gives you that boost. But on the other hand, it creates dependency, can cause numerous health issues depending on the strength of the coffee and the amount that is consumed and can increase stress levels. Of all the items on this list, this would be the last one I would recommend, but then again it is the easiest to implement.
